What True Conversion Looks Like

Statements

  • You can tell a tree by its fruit.
  • Most logical people want to go to heaven, but some people don’t want God to be there when they arrive…
  • A new relationship with God means you also have a new relationship with sin.
  • If your relationship with sin hasn’t changed, your relationship with God hasn’t changed either.

Questions

  • Where is your fruit?
  • Is it a reality in your life that you have begun to hate sin and love righteousness in growing degrees? Or is it just a mental assent to the truths of the bible? Has God done such a work in your life that the sin you once loved, you now hate and love the righteousness you once ignored?
  • Has God done such a work in your heart through the Holy Spirit, that the God you hated and ignored, you now revere, desire and seek?

Why I Choose to Believe the Bible!

Quotes

  • Voddie Baucham said, “I chose to believe the Bible because it’s a reliable collection historical documents written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophesies, and claimed that their writings were divine rather than human in origin.”

Based on Scripture

  • 2 Peter 1:16-21 – “For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

Reaping and Sowing

Scripture

  • Galatians 6:7-10 – Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
  • 2 Corinthians 9:6 – “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”
  • Proverbs 22:8 – “Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity, and the rod of his fury will fail.”
  • Job 4:8 – “As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same.”
  • Proverbs 11:18 – “The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward.”
  • Hosea 10:12 – “Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.”

Pluralism

Questions

  • What does the Coexist symbol mean?
  • Can all religions coexist on earth together peacefully?
  • Can Christians live peacefully with all others who reject Christ? Sure.
  • But can this be the case in the afterlife? Christ will not allow this. There will be peace among those in heaven. The question will be who will be in heaven and how does one get there?
  • How does one get peace with God?

Born Again

Scripture

John 3:1-8 – “Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Quotes

  • Ravi Zacharias said, “Jesus does not offer to make bad people good, but to make dead people alive.”
  • Steve Lawson said, “Unless you have the second birth it would have been better that you not have had the first birth”

Faith Alone

Scripture

  • Romans 1:16-17 – “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
  • Galatians 3:21-26 – “Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, or in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.
  • Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Hypocrites

Scripture

  • Matthew 23:25-28 – “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

Salvation for Sinners

Scripture

  • Acts 16:31 – “And they said, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.'”
  • 1 Tim 1:15 – “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.”
  • Isaiah 45:22 – “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.”
  • John 3:36 – “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”
  • Romans 8:1 – “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Statements

  • You must be rescued from impending doom.
  • There is always someone who dies for sin.

Quotes

Steve Lawson said, “Salvation is not a reward for the righteous. It is a gift for the guilty.”

Breaking God’s Law

Scripture

  • Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
  • Romans 2:6-7 – “He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey u righteousness, there will be wrath and fury.”
  • Galatians 5:17-21 – “For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
  • Numbers 32:23 – “But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.”
  • Galatians 6:7 – “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”

Statements

  • God’s rules, called Laws (or commandments) have GREAT and TERRIBLE consequences attached to them for when someone breaks them
  • Jesus was the ultimate rule keeper; we are the ultimate rule breakers
