- 1 Corinthians 1:18 – “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
- 1 Corinthians 2:14-15 – “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.”
- 1 Corinthians 1:27 – “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;”
Cherry Picking
- Saint Augustine said, “If you believe what you like in the Gospel and reject what you don’t like, it is not the Gospel you believe, but yourself.”
Christ’s Sacrifice
Quotes
- Paul Washer said, “Honestly, after this great work of redemption, do you actually think… if God did all this… to his son, do you honestly think there is some way to save yourself by your works? Do you honestly think that what he did was not sufficient so that you have to add your works to it?”
Trust
Statements
- Trust in Christ like you would in a parachute; skydiving
- Entrust yourself to the one true God
- Demons don’t trust – they believe, but don’t trust or worship as lord
- You already know how to trust someone with your life if you:
- get on a plane you trust the pilot with your life
- take pills from a doctor, you trust the doctor with your life
- get in an elevator, you trust your life to cables
- undergo surgery
Delayed Justice
- God’s justice is not immediate – it is not enacted the second you sin. This proves his loving kindness and patience, not willing that any should perish. Why do you tempt fate? Why do you wait on his grace and mercy knowing that you deserve the just penalty of almighty God? He has not ended your life and called your soul into his holy court to be judged just yet. Flee to Christ.
Goodness
- God is good. This very truth is what so many are hoping will free them when in fact it is the one thing that will condemn them. God is good and we are not. He is just and cannot simply let your sin go.
- Paul Washer said – “What do I have to do to go to heaven? ‘Oh that’s easy, you have to be absolutely perfect from the moment of your birth to the moment of your death. In order to go to heaven you must be morally perfect without spit or blemish in any shape form or fashion to any degree. You must be morally perfect from the moment of birth to the moment of death.’”
- “Who here believes they are a good enough person and doesn’t need Jesus as a crutch to get into heaven?”
Good/Bad News
- “We need to see that we are condemned by our sins, we’ve broken Gods laws, we are justly deserving of hell, but that god loves sinners, and has offered Christ his son, as a sacrifice and there IS hope”
Crucifixion
- a ‘horrifying criminals death called crucifixion’
The Great Exchange
Quotes
- “The Gospel is the only story where the hero dies for the villain.”
- John MacArthur said, “On the cross, God treated Christ as if He lived my life of sin, so that He could treat me as if I had lived Christ’s life of righteousness.”
- Francis Schaeffer said, “If I had one hour with every man, I would spend the first 45 minutes talking to them about God’s law, and the last 15 minutes talking about His great salvation.”
- Martin Luther said, “The Law proves to us that we cannot stand before God in our own righteousness, and that drives us to the cross.”
Statements
- You must believe that is true. But it must be a saving belief. For even the devils believe and tremble. They believe and are terrified because Jesus is not their lord but their enemy. You must have faith in your LORD Jesus Christ. Trust Him to save you and intercede for you on the day of judgment.
- Christ died for his enemies!!!

What is Truth?
- “That which conforms to the mind of God” – Mark Spence
- That which comports with reality.
- John 14:6 – “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
- John 18:33-40 – “So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”
After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him. But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” They cried out again, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.”
